Phytochemical analysis and anti-diarrhoea potential of ethanol leaves extract of Nypa frutican in albino rats

Organization has encouraged studies that will bring about the desired treatment and prevention of diarrhoea. Nypa frutican commonly known as Nipa palm or Mangrove is used in traditional medicine for various ailments leaves are locally making roofing mats, hats brooms. This study was designed to evaluate phytochemical constituents using Gas Chromatography- Flame Ionization Detector anti-diarrhoea potential ethanol extract albino rats. Fecal count, measurement gastrointestinal charcoal meal distance intestinal fluid electrolyte concentrations procedures were used. The quantitative analysis revealed presence flavonoids, alkaloids, cyanogenic glycosides, oxalate, saponin, steroids, cardiac glycoside tannin (35.53, 30.55, 16.88, 10.31, 9.79, 8.71, 4.86 1.95) µg/ml respectively. Extract (200, 300 400) mg/kg comparison with 5 standard drug (loperamide hydrochloride), inhibited production diarrhoea stool, degree motility, concentration (Na+, K+, Cl- HCO3-). result obtained showed leaf may contain some pharmacologically active substance potentials due its components.
